Thu, 24th May 2012
The Port Stephens-Great Lakes Marine Park has this week released its fifth turtle fitted with a satellite tag, as part of a long-term turtle monitoring program. A female Hawksbill turtle named Jodie was released yesterday, after swallowing a large amount of plastic and spending six weeks recovering at Taronga Wildlife hospital.
Marine park ranger, Chris Gallen says very little is known about Hawksbill turtles and the information gathered over the next year will be invaluable. "They're endangered throughout the Pacific and on the east coast of Australia," he said.
