Suggest newsShed TV - August 2012 - mid-month update
Mon, 3rd September 2012
New videos, new gardening Q&A and depression Q&A, plus cooking, amateur theatre and IT activities. More film and board game reviews, and you can listen to our first Shed mixed tape.
Tony here – with your August mid-month update. It's been super-busy here at “Shedquarters”. The Membership Drive is going full-steam-ahead. Thanks to all of you who've rolled up your sleeves and joined in. We've reached 5,500 members, so congratulations everyone. Let's see if we can push that total up to 5,700 by the end of August.
You can help in three ways:
August Membership Drive (this is now closed)
- Invite a mate: get your family, friends and colleagues, club mates and Shed members to join up.
- Spread the Shed: order our poster and mousemat, put them somewhere prominent for people to see and take a photo.
- Spin Us a Yarn: our word-of-the-week is TOOL. Send in your story, poem or song about your favourite tool. Maybe it's something from your grandfather's shed? Maybe you can tell us about one of your projects that required a particular specialised tool?
Go to our Membership Drive page for details – there's Bunnings Gift Cards on offer. Get on board, and help us build Australia's Biggest Shed.
Activities
We've just uploaded more new activities on the Shed Online...
- Learn how to cook barbecue lamb kebabs, with our mate Tom in our Shed kitchen.
- Keep your data safe with our "protect your computer" activity: Learn about anti-virus, firewalls, spyware and lots more.
- Check out our "virtual mix tape": We've collected together your suggestions for songs that get you through the blues. You can listen online, so sit back and enjoy the music.
- Get started in amateur theatre: Are you an aspiring thespian? Ever dreamed of “treading the boards” and acting on the stage? Take a look at our activity that shows you how to get involved in amateur theatre and musical productions.
Health - Depression
- Depression videos: Continuing our health focus on Depression, we've got new videos about how people manage depression and where to get help.
- Depression Q&A: Our Q&A hosted by beyondblue is still open. Send in your questions about depression and we'll post answers next month.
Book club
- The Shed Online book club is going strong. Our new book to read is "Daughter Of The Forest", an historical fantasy novel based on a Brother's Grimm story. Grab a copy from your library and get ready for our discussion next month, led by Shedder Mick Woodman.
- If you're interested in hosting one of our book clubs, introduce yourself by sending an email to webteam@theshedonline.org.au.
From the Blog
- Plus we've got new film and board-game reviews.
- And we've added another article to our finance blog.
So that's what's happening in August. Remember, invite a mate, spread the shed, and spin us a yarn for our Membership Drive. Let's see how many blokes we can get into The Shed Online.
Keep your contributions to the site coming, and thanks to all of you who are spreading the word about The Shed Online.
'Til next time, Shedders!
