Member terms

The discussion forums on the Website are intended for people over the age of 18 to engage in an exchange of information about a diverse range of topics.  Divergent points of view can provide for vigorous and refreshing debate within online forums, and while you will not always agree with another user's opinion, it is courteous to remember that each user is entitled to his or her own viewpoint.

You acknowledge that the views of persons posting queries, comments and statements to the discussion forums are not necessarily our views, and are not necessarily endorsed by us.  You are solely responsible for your own communications, the consequences of posting those communications and your reliance on any communication found within the discussion forums.

You must not use the discussion forums to engage in any illegal activity, any civil wrong or tort or any other activity that may cause loss or damage to another person.

You agree to indemnify us in relation to any loss or damage incurred by us and any liability to a third party that accrues to us as a result of your use of this Website and the discussion forums in contravention of these Member terms.

In addition, you must not use the discussion forums for commercial purposes.

You can only post to the discussion forums under your own username and you must not utilise the discussion forums in a manner by which you purport to be someone else.

Upon joining the chat rooms, you will appear online and other members will be able to message you.  Mates on you “blocked mates” list will be able to see you online.  You can choose to ignore these members via the “ignore feature” built into the chat room.  Ignoring a member means that you will be blocking them from the chat room feature only.  If this member is currently on your mates list, you may also want to add them to your “blocked mates” list via your my mates page.  Logging out of chat will not log you out of The Shed Online.  If you would like to sign out of The Shed Online altogether, you will need to do this by accessing the “Sign out” button located on the top right hand corner of your page.

Remember that the forums are public places. Don’t post personal information that you would not be comfortable sharing with a stranger. We recommend you use only your first name or a pseudonym in your user name and that you don’t post any information that may identify you or anyone else, such as your address, email address or phone number.

At all times, you should maintain an awareness that a range of people from many different backgrounds, of very different ages, and with differing levels of familiarity with the topics being discussed and with the computing environment will be reading and posting to these discussion forums. Please only use English when posting to the discussion forums.

This discussion forum is moderated by mental health professionals. You acknowledge that all material on this forum will be read by a moderator and that we reserve the right to remove any postings to the discussion forums that contravene any of the limitations contained in these Member Terms or which the Website moderators (in their sole discretion) consider to be inappropriate for inclusion in the discussion forums.  This may be done without any prior notice to the person who has contributed that posting.

You further acknowledge that any 'personal' or 'private' messages sent by a Member to another Member may be reviewed by the Website moderators (in their sole discretion) in certain circumstances (for example, in order to protect a Member from abuse or harassment).

We further reserve the right to suspend or cancel the registration of any member who contravenes any of these Member terms as they apply to use of this Website and the discussion forums.

You may request at any time that your account be deleted from the Website.  By doing so, you understand and agree that we may retain your personal information for up to six months from the date of your request and that all activity associated with your account will remain on the Website (for example, your posts in the Discussion Forums will not be deleted).

By posting material to the discussion forums, you grant us an irrevocable, perpetual, payment-free, worldwide and non-exclusive license to use, modify, adapt and publish that material.

You acknowledge that the discussion forums are not intended to be, nor should they be construed or relied upon to provide, medical advice.  If you require medical advice or assistance you should contact your general practitioner, or, if urgent assistance is required, your nearest hospital or emergency services.

If any material you post raises concerns about your safety or the safety of others, we may try to contact you to make sure that you or others are safe.  We may also need to pass your contact details on to authorities who can help protect your safety or the safety of others (for example, to a crisis service).
