Good to see The Shed Online.
I am busily browsing the Forum and there are some very interesting topics.
Good luck to The Shed Team.
I live in The Garden State and will be just about interested in any topic going and I hope that from time to time I can make a contribution to the discussions.
Cheers.

You might want to check out Cliff's discussion post in the General Discussions section. He is looking to chat with anyone who knows a bit about earthmoving and would probably be keen to talk to a dozer driver.

Hi
I am in a pretty deep cycle at the moment, having trouble getting a job and battling with things. I have a supportive wife and a lovely daughter. I try not to talk much about my illness. I have survived two big suicide attempts and I'm glad they didn't work. This seems like a nice place, thanks for inviting me in. I talk too much so that's it.

G'day, all
Worked as a chippy, ran a restaurant, organised student demos, sold bullbars, built bridges and other big stuff.
Now semi-retired on the NSW Mid-North Coast I dabble in Shed stuff and sometimes help out co-ordinating the Sheila's Shed at my local shed. A few of us fellas keep an eye on the 'newbie' sheilas so they don't do anything silly until they've figured out what's what.
Am working in the sustainability sector, most recently as an energy assessor, explainign the ins and outs of solar HWS and solar PV to people who otherwise have to rely on the lies of sales reps, and the BS in fancy, glossy brochures.
Have my own energy consumption down to under 5kW per day, and with solar PV on the roof, I am a nett exporter to the grid and making a few quid along the way.
Anyone got any questions on my areas of expertise, feel free to ask a question!
Cheers
Mark

My name is Barrie. I have suffered with anxiety and depression for just over 15 years. Consequently my finacial situation is very precarious. I live with my wife in Wentworth NSW. I am a member of the Dareton Men in the Shed. We moved to Wentworth from Melbourne in August 2010. The reason, my in-laws offered us their previous home to live in rent free. I think it was a mistake. I am finding it very hard to settle into country life after living in large cities all my life.
I hope to develop a web site but I do not have the expertise.

I am 50 yrs old and living in Cranbourne, Vic.
I have been with my current partner (who is 20 years younger than me) for a bit over 9 years.
I am on a Disability Support Pension for my depression and anxiety so I am a stay at home dad to our 2 boys (aged 7 & 2) while she goes out to work.
I was first diagnosed with depression in 1979, but never really understood what was happening to me until I was hospitalised in 1994 after a half-hearted attempt at suicide.
I had lots of jobs over the years - mostly in the entertainment & hospitality industries. In the years since I stopped working I have now also developed a bad back & arthritis in my legs.
I have acquired a lot of skills in a lot of different areas and I like to chip in and help out where I can.
So, if I can help any of you guys out don’t be shy about asking.
For example ....

Barrie, I have some skills in that area and would be happy to help you with your website if you’d like.

Hi Shed, members and guests, great to see 'The Shed Online' exist.
I am single/separated(in process of divorce) in my early 40's,live south of Brissy and work for the govt(fact not fiction) in a high security laboratory complex. The sport I follow needs to burn fossil fuels and I like to only fix my ute once(twice means I did wrong the first time).I have interests in herpetology, computers, model railway, music & live music, amateur cooking, fishing, camping & boating, movies, cars.I recently saw Mental As Anything and could not believe how good they still are.I have never had a shed/man cave to call my own,but enjoy tinkering.Working for the govt means I have alot of free time and sometimes little to fill it.
The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.
Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.

Hell Gang,
My name is Geoff Close, I am a retired Accountant, 45, living in Point Lonsdale, VIC.
My Depression/Anziety problems seriously developed 15 years ago, when I was in a Management role in Public Transport... ended up retiring me, ill health, 5 years ago. Better for me, and for my employer, who had put up with lots of lost time.
I play lawn bowls, have been a seller on eBay, and assist people with PC/Technology problems (mainly software teaching). Happy to help anyone I can.
Not married, or connected, never have been. Have a wonderful supportive family, lucky.
Like everyone, some days are good, some are average, and some, well, you don't get up for. On the whole it is improving, so pleased... still a way off before I am ready to return to work.
Good to see a Shed online, looking forward to relating and learning, assisting if possible. Been through the mill many times, have a good strategy with doctors/specialists (up to 6 and counting for various things).
Best wishes to all, speak soon,
Geoff

Hi Andrew,
My name is Paul Cochran and I was one of the team involved in getting this great website developed last year. I am a primary school teacher and am a beyondblue, 'blue voices' member. My connection to bb is due to the fact that my eldest daughter, now 21, has been battling depression and other mental health issues for over 12 years so my wife and I are her carers. I've also experienced some depression myself, but fairly low grade compared to many other guys I know. If you look at the beyondblue 'Carers' DVD released a couple of years ago, (but still available), you will see our story featured.
With regards to this site, the Shed Online, we created it with inspiration from the great work being done through the 'Men's Shed' organisation. But as many men don't have access to a local Men's Shed, or may not feel comfortable dropping in to visit one, this on-line site was created. You can be actively involved through the forum topics or just drop by to obtain information on events, activities, men's health etc. from the site. If you like, you can connect through the site with other members who may have similiar interests to yourself. It's as simple as that.
I hope that helps you to get started. May you find this site a valuable resource.
Paul

Hi Mark,
I'm guessing that as you only use 5kW per day you don't have any kids living at home!!!

Hi man, having just read your situation I strongly feel for you and the thought has crossed my mind in regard the same.
By your own admission you have a lovely wife and daughter, when these thought come in try and think how you would hurt them, I know it is not easy I am going through a very bad time now having been medically retired and 6 weeks ago put out of my home by her with the aid of the police. I have no support except the mental health team catholic care and the salvation army. I say thank god for all, i dont think I would have made it this far with out them. Take good care my friend and may the lord keep you and your family safe at all times.
