G'day Devon.

Try a site called www.blogger.com

I believe a blog is what you are after as that will let you update it whenever you want either by adding a new post or by updating an existing one.

If you want something more than that I can help too as I make websites for friends with businesses.

Cheers,
Matt

Devon - Matts reply is pretty good but perhaps you should try Facebook (just do a search on the internet)  - a blog you still have to create and maintain and requires at least some know-how whereas Facebook has done most of the work for you and has a lot of features that you can use without having any technical skills and if you get your friends to join you can keep in contact with them easily. Good luck

Bill

If you want something simple yet elegant (and free) you might want to go here: http://www.moonfruit.co

Hi Devon,

For a completely free website program go to http://www.yola.com

There you can create a complete website with almost unlimited space.

Easy to set up with many ready made templates.

Hi Devon,

Are you talking about your own personal shed or is it a mens shed with many members and incorporation or at least formalised in some way?

Are you just trying to tell your own personal story or is it more like what I am doing with the website for Strathfield Mens Shed (see www.strathfieldmensshed.org.au for more info)?

If you are trying to create a personal blog just to tell people what you are doing I cannot add more than the above comments (except to say that I would stay away from face book but that is another topic). You should have a look at some of the blogs that are on blog sites like blogger.com they may be what you are looking for.

If the aim of the exercise is to create a website for a group of guys and a fully functioning comunal shed then I would recommend completely different approaches and some more discussion. In my opinion you should avoid the free sites and control the content yourself. The free sites must make their money somehow and they mostly do it by advertising. Surely you would want something a little more professional? Have a look at the very very last line on the pages of any website that you really like. It is most common for the footer to tell you who has made the website or where it is hosted or at least offer a contact name for you.

If you want to create a website a lot like the Strathfield Mens Shed site you should contact me through the links on that page. You will find our site on the first page in GOOGLE if you search for Mens Shed!

If there are any other mens sheds that would like some help to create a website they can contact me through the Strathfield Mens Shed site too.

Good luck with finding the right solution for you

Dan

If a men's shed wants their own domain name and free web hosting. I am willing to help them get online with a full domain. A full domain can advertise online, where if you build a web constuction kit of some kind, these are always sub domains and they can not advertise online.

Best way to find out if your website is a sub domain is read the address in the search result when you are on your own web site. If the web address has a dot in it other than the ending, dot com dot au and so own, then you own a sub domain and they don't get a lot of traffic. You have to find other ways of getting people to your site, by putting stickers on cars etc.

Any way I am loosing the plot here a bit, if anybody wants a website with the power of a full domain, read our article on Get On Line Easy - How To For Men's Sheds.

http://mens-shed-elermore-vale.com/blog/mens-sheds/get-online-easy-how-to-for-mens-sheds/

There is over 706 Men's Sheds in Australia, and only a few of them have a good website. I can help any Men's Shed get a Wordpress site. Using them once installed is easy. If you can type on a keyboard then that is the only skill you will need to get those important pages out there onto the Internet, I can set your back office software to upgrade and transmit all your info to the search engines for you.

Anyway I get nothing out of doing this, except seeing another charity get online and get things going for them. I really want to see all the Men's Sheds get online. I have subscribe to this topic if anybody wants to add anything.smiley-wink.gif
